so far not so good

So Elliot has had gastroenteritis so his experience with food so far has been awful.  We tried him with pear yesterday but he spat it out and was then sick and then we tried porridge and sweet potato again tonight. He wouldn't touch either. Kept crying and gagging before the spoon reached his mouth.
So we are going to forget weaning for a week or so and hopefully reignite his interest in food!!!
Will be back soon x

not the best of days

Was hoping after a good sleep Elliot would be feeling better but he's been off colour  all day. No solids being given today to try and clear his tummy. So I thought I would backtrack to how we got here!

I breastfed Elliot from the start and at about 6 weeks introduced a bottle of formula. Soon after our problems started. He didn't gain weight for around 5 weeks, had bad skin, reflux and bad nappies. We had three trips to a and e for vomiting, rashes including a four day stay for a virus/dehydration. We then had blood tests to confirm his allergy.

He was put onto Neocate and has gained weight, his eczema has improved and he's so much happier. We have more allergy tests in August to check for anything else.

Hoping my little guy feels better soon......got more purees to try!!!

update

The sweet potato didn't last long. After three hours asleep he's been sick numerous times and was making a wheezing noise. Not sure if it's a reaction, ate too much or normal response after starting solid foods!

first tastes....

Tonight we had our first taste of solid food. Thought sweet potato was a good place to start so made a puree today and added a little bit of his milk just to give it a familiar taste. It was a hit!! 5 spoonfuls later and even though he did eat a fair amount a lot ended up on his face! He also decided to make a grab for the spoon so I got covered too!

Puree was pretty simple to make. Sweet potato peeled, chopped and steamed, blended with cooled boiled water and put in fridge. When he was ready I added some of his milk and that was it!
Hi - quick introduction

Im Katy, mum to Elliot who is CMPA (Cows milk protein allergy).  We were very lucky as this was diagnosed when he was 9 weeks old after first suspecting a lactose intolerance.  We ended up in hospital with Elliot and a blood test revealed his allergy.

He was put straight onto Neocate, a hypoallergenic formula and has come on so much since starting it.  We have just hit the 6 month mark and have been given the go ahead for weaning.  It's a minefield out there as so many foods have milk protein in, there are different names for milk protein and a lot of baby food has it in.

So we are starting from scratch, everything will be home made and i'll be hunting the internet for recipes, ideas and hopefully will be able to share them with you.

We are also avoiding soya, nuts, shellfish and wheat at the moment as they are popular allergens too.
